Elizabeth Garrett Anderson jute bag

£6.00

Large jute bag with short padded handles.

The design features the handwriting of Garrett Anderson, from a postcard asking a Mr Hutchinson permission to attend the doctor’s lecture of lupus held at the Harveian Society. ‘I wonder if I might be admitted to some dark obscure corner…’ Garrett Anderson was the first woman in Britain to gain a medical qualification (in 1865) and was also the first female mayor in England (Aldeburgh, Suffolk 1908).
