The Royal College of Physicians celebrated its 500th anniversary in 2018, and to observe this landmark it published a series of ten books. Each of the books focuses on fifty elements that have contributed to making the RCP what it is today.

This, the final volume of the series, explores the influence that members and fellows of the RCP have had on global health – from the college's 16th-century beginnings to the present day. The author, Krishna Chinthapalli, explores 50 notable places in which members of the RCP have advanced and continued to advance the practice of medicine. Physicians and Global Health covers every continent, with doctors describing their experiences in fields ranging from diving medicine in Australia to researching altitude sickness in South America. 

Physicians and global health completes the series fittingly by not only looking back at past achievements, but also looking ahead through the eyes of some of the doctors taking us forward into the next 500 years.
