Ludmilla Jordanova

The Royal College of Physicians celebrated its 500th anniversary in 2018, and to observe this landmark it published a series of ten books. Each of the books focuses on fifty elements that have contributed to making the RCP what it is today.

This, the eighth volume in the series, focuses on the College's collection of portraits. Author Ludmilla Jordanova has penned a fascinating exploration of medical portraits, and their meanings and signification. She reveals the richness of the College's collection and some of the ways in which the portraits can be approached so as to deepen our understanding of the organisation and its history, and of portraiture as a genre.
